ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING

OUR CORE

TILIA AMERICANA: THE BASSWOOD ADVANTAGE
Spanning from the verdant expanses of Canada to the rugged terrains of the United States, Tilia Americana, commonly known as basswood, is a light, softer hardwood core that offers exceptional strength and stability.

We have chosen basswood for its superior qualities, ensuring your projects benefit from the best materials available.

OUR BASSWOOD CORE
Our core consists of thicker strips of basswood hardwood filets that are glued onto larger panels. This process involves a cross grain veneer, to tie the core together and prevent telegraphing of individual boards to the face.  We purposely selected this lower density species to keep the weight down while adding strength with tougher hardwood. We choose to work with local species to uphold our environmental commitments and reduce our carbon footprint.

BENEFITS OF BASSWOOD
Strength and Stability: Basswood’s lightweight yet strong nature ensures our products prioritize stability.
Improved Adhesion: Basswood contains less pitch (sap) than spruce, allowing it to absorb our adhesive. This results in stronger glue joints.
Uniform Grain: With a more uniform grain than spruce, basswood remains perfectly straight in storage, holds its shape better, and is easier to work with. It doesn’t warp, provides cleaner cuts, and is easier to sand.

While Herringbone and Chevron patterns might look similar at first glance, they have distinct characteristics in how the boards are laid.

Herringbone uses equal-sized boards where the short end meets the long side of the next board, forming a classic zig-zag design. Each board is cut at a 90-degree angle, creating a continuous, interlocking pattern that adds timeless elegance to any space.

Chevron, on the other hand, requires more precision. Our boards are cut at a 45-degree angle, forming a series of striking arrow-like shapes. This pattern creates a dynamic flow, adding a sense of direction and movement to the room.
